I wonder if someone can help me on this.

I have an field which I would like to fit exactly regardless of the text length. So if the contents are too large it would either shrink/condense to fit etc

Would i need to include a calculation field so that when the text is over a certain amount it shows instead of the main field?

In preview or print mode, you can use the sliding options. Make the field as large as it might possibly be and then format it to slide up.
