Batfastad Posted August 5, 2004 Posted August 5, 2004 I'm using fmu 5.5 and I have a quick question about web security. I have a web database with access permissions set so that everyone enters a password when the login. I also have a web password with the browse access right set to 'Limited' - in theory limiting records with a certain text string in a field. I also use the web security db to manage security. In the web security db theres a password box to set the database password for that particular file. If in the web security db I set the password to that web password I setup in access permissions of the file, the web security db will be restricted to those permissions - eg the limited record browse. Correct? So I could in theory select the edit permission in web security db, but the password i supplied to the web security db doesn't allow edit. Does it work that way? Or does the web security db completely override filemaker's permissions. I would have thought that the web security db would be limited to the permissions of the password that you type in the file password box in the web security db. Am I correct or barking up the wrong tree? Thanks
Garry Claridge Posted August 6, 2004 Posted August 6, 2004 Whichever password you "open" the database with has the preference. All the best. Garry
Batfastad Posted August 6, 2004 Author Posted August 6, 2004 Ah OK, So what's the 'database password' field for in the web security db for? Thanks
Garry Claridge Posted August 6, 2004 Posted August 6, 2004 I think that it is for the "Remote Administration". Garry
