David Melville Posted August 9, 2004 Posted August 9, 2004 I am trying to incorporate the results of a calculation field into a company letter using the formulae <<field_name>>. I need this to show as currency to two decimal places. The problem is that if the result is only one decimal, then it shows
spb Posted August 9, 2004 Posted August 9, 2004 I don't think you can do that with merge fields. It might be better to make a calculation field that would add the pound sign and the trailing zeros, and use that as your merge field. Here's a calc for this off the top of my head: "
-Queue- Posted August 9, 2004 Posted August 9, 2004 You can select the merge field or text block containing the merge field in Layout mode and format the number as desired.
spb Posted August 9, 2004 Posted August 9, 2004 Why, so you can. When I tested this before posting, the number option was grayed out for me, so i assumed you couldn't. I just tried it again, and there it is. Format number with two decimal places and pound sign, and never mind the elaborate calculation. I must not have had the field selected and thought I did. David Melville Posted August 12, 2004 Author Posted August 12, 2004 Thanks for the suggestion. I have not tried the first one and will do so later in the day. It is not possible as far as I can see to highlight the referred to field in order to format it. I am not using a field box in a layout! I am putting the field in <<fied name>> format in a letter as per the example below: Your current advert measures <<Class size>> cms by <<Class columns>> columns. Our normal rate @
David Melville Posted August 12, 2004 Author Posted August 12, 2004 I have created a new field for use in the letter and used the formulae with my calculation field name in place of the AmountField but it is not accepted and says 'NumberToText' function cannot be found. My calculation looks thus: "
-Queue- Posted August 12, 2004 Posted August 12, 2004 NumToText is GetAsText in 7. You cannot individually select the merge field, but you should be able to select the text block and tell it how to format numbers within it. If you have multiple formats to apply, you may be able to break up your text blocks and set them to slide up and apply the appropriate formatting for each block.
DykstrL Posted August 13, 2004 Posted August 13, 2004 If you click on the text block that contains the merge field and then select 'Format' from the menu and then number.. (Windows user can just right-click the text block), you should be able to select the number format. The text block must contain a valid merge field before it will allow you to select formatting for date, number, time, etc.
