Clairvoyance Implementation resource kit

The original release of this revolutionary technique provided a way to harnesses the capabilities of the MenuMagic plug-in to deliver a system which will place shaded suggestion text after the cursor in the current field (automatically updating as the user types), provide an automatically refreshing portal list of matching values (with keyboard control of the selection of items from the list), or a combination of both.

An update just released adds a further variation of the technique whereby clairvoyant suggestion text appears automatically pre-selected/highlighted in the entry field. This, along with a few other adjustments provides functionality which mimics the style of dynamic clairvoyant effect used in the 'address' fields of popular browsers such as Internet Explorer and Safari.

The NightWing clairvoyance technique uses a comprehensive key-trapping methodology which grabs each keystroke typed, using it to drive an instantaneously updating type-ahead and auto-fill interface. The automation effect is smooth and tightly controlled - unlike techniques used in the past that relied on looping scripts and other work-arounds.

The Clairvoyance Implementation resource kit includes full access to four demo files, several example files showing compound filtering techniques, explanatory notes plus a (runtime) resource which aids in configuring key-trapping implementations with the MenuMagic plug-in.

The current update is available as a free upgrade to existing registered owners of the Clairvoyance Implementation Resource Kit.

The full kit is available for a nominal fee of US$25 (Note: license/s for the MenuMagic plug-in must be purchased separately). More information and demonstration downloads are available now from:

Tried downloading; the demo link works but the Menumagic link at your site doesn't seem to work. And the "What is MenuMagic" link at NMCI only produces a blank page.

Thank you Bruce,

May have been a temporary hiccup, but both links seem to be working correctly now.

FWIW, the 'What is MenuMagic' link on the NMCI site points to a flash animation. It would not load unless you have flash player plug-in loaded and configured for your browser.

Cheers,

Hello John,

Some aspects of the clairvoyance technique can be replicated in FileMaker 6, but others cannot.

The underlying technology that supports 'key trapping' - and is at the heart of the technique - can be implemented using the v6 version of the MenuMagic plug-in, but is not quite as 'tight' - ie the keystrokes are not 'locked' to the scripts triggered, so if users type *very* rapidly, it is possible for them to get ahead of the scripts. This does not occur in v7.

Some other aspects of the functionality, such as the use of colored text to introduce 'shaded' suggestions for word/phrase completion are also not supported in v6, where the feature set for text manipulation is more limited.

There is no separate kit available for v6 at present, although as per the above, you would be able to adapt the techniques shown to achieve a more limited implementation in a v6 solution.

Well I downloaded the demos from Nightwing and also the demo of the plug-in that Joseph mentioned.

Chalk and cheese. The plug-in doesn't do a fraction of what the Nightwing set up does. If you want the look of real clairvoyance and real type ahead.

I went ahead and ordered the kit from Nightwing. Now I just hope I can figure out how to get it working on my db crazy.gif
