Newbies Russo2000 Posted January 23, 2002 Newbies Posted January 23, 2002 Hi, Not sure that this is the place to ask this question, but here goes: I have a field with a value list of Names of employees. On a separate layout I was the database to: 1. Calculate how many records have been created by each user (Employee name provided by value list) and place the result in another field. 2. Display the data in a table format - Name (first in value list) #of entered records Name (next in value list) #of entered records Name (next in value list) #of entered records etc... Name (last in value list) #of entered records. Please help. I am just starting with FileMaker.
Korky Posted January 23, 2002 Posted January 23, 2002 Create a Summary field and define it as 'Count' of the Employee field. Create a Columnar layout with the Employee field in the body and a sub-summary (sorted by Employees) containing the summary field. Now, when you sort the records by Employee, you will see a list showing what you want.
Korky Posted January 23, 2002 Posted January 23, 2002 Correction to above: Delete the Body Part and place both fields in the summary part. This way each employee appears once only.
Newbies Russo2000 Posted January 23, 2002 Author Newbies Posted January 23, 2002 Korky, First off thanks for your reply. Unfortunately I still cannot make it happen. If I place both foelds in the Sub-summary part then nothing is displayed in Browse or Preview Layouts. If they are in the body portion then the same names reappear in the list. and also the # of records is the total number for each employee, whereas I need it to show only records entered by each employee next to their name. Thanks,
danjacoby Posted January 24, 2002 Posted January 24, 2002 Nothing is displayed in a sub-summary part unless the records have been sorted on the field defined in the sub-summary part. Sort the records first, then you'll see it all in preview mode.
