So the advantage of using .mer is that you can retain leading zeroes or force numbers to be imported as text, and other options that are only available when importing. If this is not an issue, then you can do as Steve said and rename it to csv. It would be easier, however, to set the file type as .mer but name it as a .csv during the export.
