Newbies thecedarbreaks Posted October 14, 2004 Newbies Posted October 14, 2004 We are running filemaker server with 15 users. Once the user sits idle for a small amount of time they are required to reconnect to the server. The server settings are set so that there is not file sharing, the computer will not sleep, idle guests will not be disconnected, 20 concurrent users allowed. Anyone have an idea why the server drops off. Cabling is not suspect.
QuinTech Posted October 14, 2004 Posted October 14, 2004 Check the FIlemaker Server properties, Guests tab. There is an Idle Disconnect setting under there. HTH, Jerry
dkemme Posted October 15, 2004 Posted October 15, 2004 Always suspect cabling, unless your entire network has recently been certified.
Newbies thecedarbreaks Posted October 22, 2004 Author Newbies Posted October 22, 2004 I have exhausted both of those options prior to posting this problem. Thank you for your responses though.
LiveOak Posted October 22, 2004 Posted October 22, 2004 What computer and OS are you running? Are the client computers going to sleep and disconnecting themselves? -bd
QuinTech Posted October 22, 2004 Posted October 22, 2004 I said: Check the FIlemaker Server properties, Guests tab. There is an Idle Disconnect setting under there. Sorry, you did say you had tried that in your original post, didn't you? My bad for forgetting to read. Does this only happen for Filemaker? And what exactly do you mean by "they are required to reconnect to the server"-- do they have to take some action manually? J
stanley Posted October 22, 2004 Posted October 22, 2004 Do you see the same problem with all of your clients, or only some of them? There are a number of situations where a machine will lose its TCP/IP connection if it enters sleep mode. This is a platform/OS problem, not a FileMaker problem. If there are any machines on your network which do not display the dropoff, I'd try to look at what's right with them, in order to figure out what's wrong with the others. Another thing. I noticed this type of behaviour occuring at one of my clients, and changed all the machines from DHCP to manual setup on TCP/IP, and it stopped the dropoffs. -Stanley
