October 15, 200421 yr Am new to using portals. Have just upgraged to vn 7. Is it possible to click on any line in a portal and get back to that record whose fields are displayed on that line in the portal? I am assuming some scripting is involved. Where would it go? Frank Bugeja
October 15, 200421 yr Go to related record (specify the portal relationship) -- often abbreviated as GTRR. You don't necessarily need a script, you can assign that command directly to a button. You can make the whole portal row a button by putting a rectangle over the row and set it as a button.
October 15, 200421 yr Author Thanks for your reply Tom! Sorrry for being a pain, but could you please tell me exactly what to do when you say "Go to related record (specify the portal relationship) ... I am really walking on very thin ice when it comes to portals!! Thanks! Frank
October 15, 200421 yr Once you have the GTRR script step selected, click Specify. Under 'Show record using layout', select a layout associated with the portal's relationship. Also select 'Show only related records' if you want the related record to be the only one in the resulting found set.
October 15, 200421 yr Author Thanks for the last reply Q! One (hopefully final!) question: created the script using the Scriptmaker - no issues there. Where do you actually place the script? When I look at the portal in layout mode, I cannot find an option for scripts to use with that portal. Again thanks! Frank
October 15, 200421 yr As Tom said, you can make the whole portal row a button. You can also put a button in the portal, format only a particular field in the portal as a button, etc.
October 16, 200421 yr Author It works! - Thanks to all who helped with my query. I did the GTRR script first. No issue here. Then in layout mode, placed button (with script) in top line of portal. This automatically makes button appear in all lines where related records are found. Went to browse mode, tried it, and works exactly as I wanted it to work! Sincere thanks Frank B
