Hi All,

Is there something different from FM5.5 to FM7 with summary fields??

For some reason my PO_subtotal does not re-calculate the Line_total in the portal.

To get the amount to "refresh" i must move to the next record and return to

the original one then i can see that the totals have been re-calculated.

What has changed?? This same set-up worked in FM5.5.

Version 7.03 appears to correct his problem; see paragraph 1.6.1 of the Release Notes.

Thanks for the info, i just downloaded v3 and still have problem...

when i change data in a portal row the total on the "main form" is updated

instantly. If i create a new portal row (i cab tab my way thru the fields or

use enter on my keyboard) total is NOT updated. The weird thing is if i use

enter on my numeric keyborad then the total is updated.

I can also "force" an update by using an OK button which has a commit record attached to it.

I am experimenting with the way i move between fields to see what can cause this...

It must be something related to that since it's new in FM7 and i have yet to

fully understand the implications of TAB, ENTER, RETURN to move to the next field.

Any suggestions are welcomed.

It's easier for (many) users to press <ENTER> to go from field-to-field, rather than to <TAB>, so I use that whenever I can (but obviously not in Notes fields).

Hi All,

I just tested the Sum function (to get a total from records in a portal) on a main table linked to a child table in the same file.

The sum updates the total as i move to next field or portal line. ALL IS OK.

When i use the exact same set-up, but this time in a file that refrences my data file, the total does not update unless i click

outside the portal or move the next or previous record and come back.

It will only refresh when i modify a price for an existing portal line

not when i create a new one.

I know there is an issue with v2 about this but i am running v3.

Any ideas??

If you read the update pdf with v3 it states that the database schema must be modified in order for the summary refresh to be fixed. Do this by adding a field, click ok, then go back and delete it. You should see an improvement, although I can say I'm still having update issues, and trying to track them down, not as bad as v2 but some still do not refresh properly.

I'm not sure i follow, the example files i uploaded were created

in version 3.

Dan, yup this is the same type of inconsistency I'm seeing in v3, I have related portals that do not update properly. Perhaps one of the guru's out there can help explain why.

Thanks for making me feel better....

Now i know i'm not alone!!

I also tried checking & unchecking the layout setup option to

"Save records automatically" but that did not change much.

In my case when i am prompted to save changes and click OK, it works

just like clicking outside the portal. It's alomost like if the save

automatically box does not work. (ie: it does not bring up the question box,

but that's all.)
