grumbachr Posted November 5, 2004 Posted November 5, 2004 I am developing a solution that needs to be compatible on all platforms. One thing I am running into is when switching between Mac and Windows some graphics elements don
Dan-A Posted November 9, 2004 Posted November 9, 2004 I created a bunch of buttons and saved them as PNG... Used them in FM on my PC with no problems...gave my file for testing to a friend that uses a MAC he had no comments or problems with the buttons and graphics. Dan
awcase3rd Posted November 9, 2004 Posted November 9, 2004 Dan, Do you know if those PNGs used up more space in the file than say GIF or JPEG. Al
Dan-A Posted November 10, 2004 Posted November 10, 2004 Hi Al, I did not have many buttons...so I never looked at size. I used a little program called Crystal Button, I will fire the software up and save the same button in various versions. I will let you know if there is a noticible file size change after dropping each version in my test file. Dan
Dan-A Posted November 10, 2004 Posted November 10, 2004 Wow I did not think there would be this much change... i created a new file with 1 field (global container) to hold the button image... in each version of my test i put 1 button image directly on the layout & in browse mode i copied & pasted the same image in the conatainer field. Results: Empty file -- 20kb PNG graphic -- 40kb JPG graphic -- 24kb GIF graphic -- 28kb I think the JPG graphic needs to decompress when in use, so it may slow a system down??!! but i'm not sure. Both GIF & PNG offer a transparant backgroud but i think PNG32 with alpha channel (transparant) is not supported in Internet Explorer. Maybe a forum guru can confirm this!! Dan
awcase3rd Posted November 10, 2004 Posted November 10, 2004 Dan, Thanks for the update. It is certainly interesting the changes in file size and load time. In the 50+ file system I have developed where I work I have used jpeg graphics for my global navigation bar at the top of the screen. I have noticed a slow down at times. I believe is in part due to higher network traffic and the nature of jpeg files. I do agree it would be nice to hear what our master gurus know. Chooper, Cobalt......and others what do you all have to say about this. Al
Tammo Posted May 4, 2005 Posted May 4, 2005 Hi, PNG transparency does not work with Web Publishing (FM 7v3). Neither on Safari, nor on Explorer... Tammo
