FM Developer Name Change?

Has anyone else besides me filled out FileMaker's recent FM7 product survey on Zoomerang? I actually went through and filled out the whole thing (amazing what people will do for even a slim chance at an IPod...)

I was interested to see that a significant portion of the survey related to the FileMaker Developer product name. From the questions it seems they are planning to change the product name (that or release an almost identical product with a different name, wouldn't put it past 'em)

Some of their proposed names were a wee bit lame

FileMaker Gold (Ugh, smacks of discount bin game CDs)

FileMaker Ultimate (The last version you'll EVER need...)

FileMaker Advanced (Will cause mass confusion when people think you need to use Server Advanced with FileMaker Advanced, etc...)

Then they made the mistake of asking me to make my own suggestions. Moohahahahah!

Some of my ideas included...

• FileMaker Millenium-Plus-A-Few-More Edition
  
• FileMaker Plus - "For full-figured databases"
  
• FileMaker Extra Crispy Recipe - Sharper font rendering than ever before...
  
• Super FileMaker - "Faster than a speeding BTRIEVE! More powerful than an Oracle Cluster! (not compatible with Kryptonite 4.0)"
  
• Son of FileMaker Developer - Just when you thought it was safe to go into debug mode...
  
• FileMaker Reloaded - "Will you click the [color:"red"]red button or the [color:"blue"]blue button?"
  
• FileMaker Shock and Awe Edition - "The shock starts when you see the price!"
  But after a lot of thought, I decided to make the recommendation I felt best reflected the product. In the end, my suggested product name was...

Me too. My final suggestion was that FMD was the best name choice but they seem most sold on FMAdvanced. I think will be confused with FMSAdvanced.

I agree completely. The FM Advanced name is asking for mass confusion. Advanced on the server side means XDBC/Web publishing, which are part of regular FileMaker Pro, which is not advanced... Advanced on the client side means debugging and stand-alone stuff, which are not even applicable to the server products.

Part of the problem is that they've spent so long calling the base product FileMaker PRO. There's nothing below PRO (unless you count the overpriced anorexic mess that is FM Mobile.) so you have to come up with bigger and better superlatives. Which is what prompted my initial rant.
