relationships between files?

Filemaker help implies that relationships can be made between files as well as between tables, but if it tells you how to do this I can't find it! Can anyone elucidate?

First define a File Reference to the external file. Then you can add a TO for it in the relationship graph.

Just to elaborate a little:

File | Define | File References | New | Add File. Then

File | Define | Database | Relationships | Tables + | Specify Table--your new one | then connect the new table to your old one(s) (foreign key to primary key).
