RSpisketts Posted November 19, 2004 Posted November 19, 2004 Hi, I have a simple issue - I want to print a letter that may or may not run onto more than one page. I don't use a header or footer and I use a single "Content" field for the text of the letter. Rather than obtain an answer to this specific approach, I would like to know what is the recognised approach for printing variable-length documents, without printing blank pages if you specify print "All" on the print settings. I don't want to continually have to specify how many pages I want to print out after I've modified the letter. Thanks.
transpower Posted November 19, 2004 Posted November 19, 2004 In layout mode, select the object(s) and choose Format | Sliding/Printing | Sliding Up Based on | All Above. As an aside, some printers have a setting to disallow printing blank pages.
DykstrL Posted November 19, 2004 Posted November 19, 2004 Mr. Transpower missed an important additional step: Make sure that "Also reduce the size of the enclosing part" is checked. Another method that really does work quite well, if you can create your letter with a single text block and merge fields, your letter sliding and printing will be more predictable.
RSpisketts Posted November 20, 2004 Author Posted November 20, 2004 Thanks for both your suggestions. What I have done is to create a field for inputting the text and then placed a merge field (same field name) directly beneath it. Both fields go down beyond the first page, but the text-only field is configured to not print. It works well. Thanks, Roger.
