I can't seem to phathom why, in db preferences, there isn't the option to open with layout or run an opening script! Am I missing something? has it been moved? The reason why this is so dumb is because I have multiple windows and it seems to open with the last window that was at the front when the app was closed. This means I have to go to layout mode, open status area, select the right layout, adjust the window size, etc - all because on load I couldn't get it to simply run a script to take me to a certain window of a certain size.

Surely I'm missing something here?

thanks for your help

recommended! DO NOT Create a Startup script which closes a window - big mistake. It might end up closing the only window open and quit the database.

I am completely stuck! I have no idea what to do - I've even tried opening my database under Wordpad in the hope I might see the name of the script so that I could ruin it and make the database loose the reference to it. I'm blazing mad, I don't know what to do

If it was a calcuation, there would be a warning saying CIRCULAR DEFINITION - there was no warning as to what the script would do to my database!!!

How the hell do I get it back? Any ideas? I have lost a valuable bit of work - and okay, backups, backups, backups - don't I know. Thing is, you can't backup after every little thing you do. Oh how I wish i had!

Please suggest ideas other than "You won't do that again now will you?" because knowing me I probably would. I just wish script editor in Pro would have a script analyser or something that would tell you what the script would mean if executed.

Thanks for any and all your help

Have you tried

stopping the script as soon as the database starts up (command-. on mac, esc on win)

or creating a relationship to the db in question so that it will open in the Background and you can access it that way.

Or execute a script in the db from another database via the external script call?

lovely thatnks for your help - tried the ESC trick - multiple times thinking maybe it was "fastest finger on the button" round but, nay - no cigar.

But, the external script way in is awesome!!! Thanks for your help. This was recommended to me earlier and I couldn't believe what an amazing solution that is - it twisted my head off. It's great - thanks for the thought process.
