Mysterious password problem with FP7 ?

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I am very confused. I have a simple database that I created in Developer 5.5. When I open the database in FM7, it asks if it is OK to update the DB for FM7. I say OK, then I am greeted with a password dialog to get into my database. I can choose Guest which allows me to enter and edit records, but I want to edit the database itself.

Anyway, I have never turned on any of the security measures, never played with access or anything else. My guess is there is some strange bug in the upgrading the file to FM7.

Any thoughts? I have tried a few times (re-opening the OLD FM5.5 file) in FM7 and it does the same thing every time. This does not occur on any of my other files.

Thanks,

Matt

From FM conversion docs, which you really should read...

"If you convert a file that does not contain any passwords (an unprotected file), the converted file initially contains two default accounts: 1 Admin: this account is created with an account name only (no password) and is assigned the Full Access privilege set. The file will automatically open to the highest level of account access. You can restrict access to the file by defining accounts and disabling the Log in using option in the File Options dialog box..."

To further what -Queue- said, if you have passwords in a FP5 file and convert it to 7, the account name is the same as the password.
