December 6, 200421 yr Ive been creating a large database for a warehousing and distribution company. Its nearing completion, but i still want ot give it a name. I know the system PC World uses is called 'Eclipse', which has inspired me to give this sytem a name. Only problem is, i'm stumped for ideas. At the moment ive been calling it 'Mercury', but i thinks its ultimately cheesy and sounds like something out of a sci-fi film. Any ideas, Maybe a Roman/Greek/Norse God.
December 7, 200421 yr Do you remember the world's favorite pair of chipmunks, Chip 'n' Dale? Why not "Cheap 'n' Deal" Or, taking into account the company business, "Distrubator" ;-)
December 8, 200421 yr Author Yeah i remember chip n dale, but they don't sell products, they just store and distribute them. It took me three attempts to pronounce "Distrubator", my intention was to find a name that they can just put into a sentence to replace: PERSONA: "How many Fireplaces do we have in?" PERSONB: "I'll just go and check the piece of software which ollie made us which stores that kind of data and does lots of other practical labour saving tasks!" OR PERSONB: "I'll just go and check on distuba....disrutabor....dristbutator...That piece of software" Its gotta be snappy, modern, sleek and stylish. But nice try
December 8, 200421 yr Author Both on the right track, but i'm afraid they're just not clicking with me. Maybe i'm too picky
December 9, 200421 yr Author I like Nova, thats gotta be the best one yet. I think Aspirin suits the post quite well!
December 9, 200421 yr Author I just realised that 'Nova' is a really crappy make of Vauxhall car and young idiots think they're fantastic and put a spoiler on them and think it looks erally cool! It would always remind me of that!

December 13, 200421 yr An ultimate naming application has released http://www.marinersoftware.com/sitepage.php?page=74 * Desktop Poet 1.0 ($20) is "fridge poetry" application, which offers hundreds of word tiles on your desktop or "virtual fridge" area. It gives "the user the ability to compose imaginative prose or to formulate specific brainstorming ideas. Desktop Poet visually helps the poet or brainstormer create clearer thinking, more imaginative projects, and better organized writing by expanding on the free flowing thought process." [form]
December 15, 200421 yr Author Cheers for the help guys, but i realised that Mercury is infact the messenger of the gods, hence he is a delivery boy, which fits with the warehousing and distribution company. Ive even created a logo for it if anyone is interested. See Attachment
