How to make a field lookup to 2 relationships?

Featured Replies

I have the following fields: name, street, city, state, zip

I have a relationship tied to a customer file with the customer name in both databases as the relationship. I also have a relationship to a zip database.

Is there any way I can have the fields autofill if the customer numbers match but if there is no customer number or match, be able to have the zip code relationship fill in the city & state?

I know I'm trying to have the city & state fields have 2 relationships.

Not possible?

You could set up 2 separate look-ups, then have a calculation choose the one that is not empty.

A simpler (and more friendly, IMHO) solution would be to place a button next to the ZIP field. Fill in the ZIP, then click the button to have the City and State filled by a script.

I think I found the answer.

I linked Customer, street and zip to the customer file.

I linked City and State to the Zip file.

If I have a customer number, it fills in the customer name, street and zip.

In turn, the filled ZIP autofills the City and State.

If there is no customer number, filling in the zip will still autofill the City and State.

No buttons or calculations needed.

Neat!
