Scripting container fields to display contents

Featured Replies

I store PDF file references in containers and I would like to have the PDF file open automatically without having to double click the container field itself.

Is there a way to do this?

Thanks,

Jarvis

I don't know how but I know it has been discussed previously, I would search this forum, go back several months to catch all the discussion.s

Use the Go to Field script step. Check the box that says Select/Perform or possibly Activate. That should use the default application for the file type to launch the file.

In Windows, this only works if you insert a link to the file, not if you insert the file itself. BUT, if you insert the file as an Object, it does work. Go figure. I don't know if the same restriction applies under Mac OS X, I would hope not.

Under Mac OS, you also have the option of using Applescript, which would let you do all sorts of interesting things with the file.
