anna f Posted December 20, 2004 Posted December 20, 2004 This is probably right under my nose but I cannot find it anywhere- can I install the SAT on an XP machine? FMSA7 is going on a remote Terminal Server machine but I need to tinker with it from home- I only have XP there. Anyone know of any problems with this? Thanks!
anna f Posted December 20, 2004 Author Posted December 20, 2004 Sorry- Server Administration Tool. I need remote administration capabilities.
Ted S Posted December 20, 2004 Posted December 20, 2004 Anna, I just did a bit of poking around and figured out it stands for Server Administration Tool. I wasn't familiar with that acronym. I don't have the FileMaker SAT application loaded on my home machine because like you we are running Terminal Services on our FMSA box and I am able to simply log onto that server from home using the Remote Desktop Connection and operate it as if I were standing directly in front of it. I'm not sure if I am answering your question.
anna f Posted December 20, 2004 Author Posted December 20, 2004 I can't log into the Terminal server remotely because it is actually not ours- we outsourced our network so we all connect over IP with thin clients (except us IT people- we have laptops of course!) Anyway, I do not know specifically how "they" are setting up the server components. I just told them to passcode and enable remote admin. so I could do my thing. I think it will all work out if I can install the SAT locally on my XP machine but I can't find anything that says it will work. When "they" give me the software back, I am going to try it. (Outsourcing eliminates a lot of headaches but people are funny about putting unfamiliar software on their servers- the "testing" phase for FMSA7 is lengthy!)
Ted S Posted December 20, 2004 Posted December 20, 2004 I understand now. On my workstation at the office I have loaded the SAT application and can indeed administer the server from my workstation. I've only set it up once and that was a few months back so I don't remember the exact steps but it was pretty obvious. You will need to know the IP address of the server and the administration password but that should be about all you need to know. I can't remember having any trouble setting it up so it's pretty intuitive.
anna f Posted December 20, 2004 Author Posted December 20, 2004 Thanks! (And quick, too!) I'm gonna try it.
