Munchie Posted December 29, 2004 Posted December 29, 2004 FM Server is 5.5, and I have built a new computer to run FM Server on. OS is Windows 2003 with the latest updates. Computer is AMD 64bit 3400+ Process, with a Raid 0 on 2 10,000RPM SATA Drives. Includes 1Gig of Corsair RAM. Now, the issue I've run into: My users are getting randomly kicked off the server. There has been no specific task, or action on the user part that seems to be causing it. All of the computers on my network seem to prone to this happening, EXCEPT my computer, which I use to develop on. I did some testing to see if my computer was causing the issue, and it happened with mine on, off, in use, ect... When I look at the error that Event Viewer is generating, it says this: Event Type: Warning Event Source: FileMaker Server Event Category: None Event ID: 17 Date: 12/28/2004 Time: 8:27:35 PM User: N/A Computer: SERVER NAME Description: User "Hightower" [XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX] no longer responding, connection closed. (17) I've changed some info for security paranoia reasons. Some other things I've noticed: Sometimes only 1 user gets kicked off, sometimes all the users get kicked off. Another change I made right before this started, is I changed from an Unswitched hub, to an Autosensing Hub. When the errors started, I chnaged back to the Hub, with not improvment. I've searched the forums, and I found another 2 topics with the same exact issue I seem to be having, and there was never a result in those threads. I also found very little on the web about this. Can anybody give me some idea of what may be causing this?? Thanks.
Wim Decorte Posted December 29, 2004 Posted December 29, 2004 Do all users get kicked off at the same time? Or if one user is kicked off, can the others still continue? I assume you double-checked the 'disconnect on idle' setting on FMS? Try to swap out the network card on the server. As a side note, I'm not sure about using a 64-bit machine for such a crucial piece of your network. FMS 5.5 is strictly 32-bit so why take chances on some incompatibility...
transpower Posted December 29, 2004 Posted December 29, 2004 Actually a switching hub should be better. To avoid loss of data, set each PC to Adjust for Best Performance of System Cache.
Munchie Posted December 29, 2004 Author Posted December 29, 2004 Yeah, I've checked the disconnect when idle, it's off right now. Something new, my computer is now crashing more than the others. A task that loops through records, and prints letters will not do more than 5 records in the process now. As for when people are getting kicked out, sometimes everyone gets kicked at once, sometimes it's one or 2 at a time. Frustratingly random!
