savage Posted December 31, 2004 Posted December 31, 2004 We need a FileMaker 7 plugin or another way of displaying the current window without scrollbars, and without FileMaker 7 zoom/mode/status area controls in the lower left corner.
David Holmberg Posted February 11, 2005 Posted February 11, 2005 you can choose to create a kiosk application in filemaker developer when creating a project (runtime) Then all the menus will go away
SteveB Posted February 11, 2005 Posted February 11, 2005 Don't use kiosk mode if your project is fairly complex...you'll pull your hair out. A better solution is to use Menu Control from Dacons International or Secure Menu from New Millenium. Instead, create a runtime. But understand that either a runtime or a kiosk requires that you script all navigation. Steve
Steve N Posted February 19, 2005 Posted February 19, 2005 I thought "Menu control" and "Secure menu" only dealt with the menus not the scroll bars, Zoom/mode/status area. Does it remove the zoom/mode/status or grey it out?
SteveB Posted February 19, 2005 Posted February 19, 2005 If you use one of the plugins, you can permanently turn off the status area, but you'll have to script everything (same thing happens in kiosk mode). The status area at the bottom of the screen is controlled by Access Priveleges (in FM 6: don't know about v7). However, if users can get at the underlying FM Menus you're dead meat. As to scroll bars, you need to make your layout fit on a screen, so they won't need scroll bars. FM only puts them there if the layout needs to be scrolled either horizontally or vetically. My personal preference is to not have layouts that need scrolling, except for reports. I find it visually disconcerting to have layouts with different sizes. Secure FM has some features that may enable you to turn off specific features, but I haven't used it in a while. I can tell you for sure that using one of the plugins will result in a more attractive, more consistent appearance than would a kiosk. They are about the same amount of work, since you've got to script all navigation. Steve
Steve N Posted February 19, 2005 Posted February 19, 2005 I also prefer to have layouts without the need for scrolling and I do make the layouts fit the screen, however there is still a shadow were the scroll bars would be. I know this sound picky but I would like the layout as clean as possible. Apparently there is no plug in that totally eliminates the bars. The same is true for the mode area at the bottom I have seen examples of grey out but not eliminated.
