How do I do a Find using a date range?

Featured Replies

Hello,

In Find mode I often need to search on a date range, say, 10/1/2004 through 12/30/2004; or I may need to search for all records after or before a certain date, for example > 3/1/2004. But I get an error if I enter anything other than an actual date or "..." in a date field. How do I get Filemaker to do a Find based on a date range or a comparative date value?

Thanks!

10/01/2004 ... 12/30/2004 should work. > 03/01/2004 should also work. Perhaps you could attach your file.

Hi rlbryant,

Do a search of "All Forums" using

+Find +Date +Range (just as you see it including the + sign) and replace the 1 in Weeks with nothing.

This will return 200 hits (maximum find). Included is this recent thread

Also, this sample file by CobaltSky (AKA Ray J. Cologon) "Establishing a Range-based Relationship" might be more in tune to what you are wanting to do, his URL is:

Easy - first date, 2 periods, second date e.g. to find fates between 1 Jan 2004 and 4 Oct 2004 (inclusive). type in 1.1.2004..4.10.2004. The FMP manual also allows you to use 3 periods between the 2 dates as well. (I am using Australian date format DD-MM-YYYY).

Hope this helps
