Networking stack cannot be initialized

Featured Replies

FileMaker Pro7 has been running on Windows XP Home Edition with no problems. I now have XP Pro and am not able to connect to the Mac FMP server to access the databases. I get the message: Filemaker cannot be a client or share a file because the networking stack cannot be initialized.

My TCP/IP network is working fine- I can ping all networked computers,

I can browse the network, and I can send/receive email.

I reinstalled FileMaker but it didn't make a difference.

Does anyone have any ideas as to what I can look for. Firewall on the PC or Mac?

Thanks, Bonnie

Disable the XP firewall, in network connections, advanced.

Thanks for your input but your solution did not work. I've tried everything and don't know where to go next. Any other ideas?

hi Did you fix this?

I'm getting the same error on a new FMP8 install. I've reinstalled tcp/ip and fixed winsock. Also tried re-installing and no luck

I was getting the same error, it was the firewall. Did you shut the wirewall off or go into the settings and allow the FM program? I've ran into firewall issues before and found that simply disabling the firewall does not always prevent the firewall from stopping connections through a network. If you haven't already tried it, go into the firewall settings and add FM to your application list.
