J__ Posted January 5, 2005 Posted January 5, 2005 Hi, A friend has fm7 server v1 (anyone know where the fix list is for v2 ?) on I believe the latest version of OSX. One of his coworkers had the database file open and he was unaware of this and i believe pasted in a script into scriptmaker - without shutting down the server. After that, the coworkers would connect to the database via their desktop and they would not be prompted to login and provide password! yet their permissions are still set on the file. is this because the file got trashed? Any insight would be appreciated. thanks in advance sincerelry, J__
Claus Lavendt Posted January 10, 2005 Posted January 10, 2005 I'm not sure, what caused the problem, but normally it is not a problem to work with scripts, while it's open on the server. I would try to take off the file(s) from the server, and locally try to make a repair from FM. If this doesn't work, try to save as clone, repair and import all records from the original file. sincerely Claus
J__ Posted January 10, 2005 Author Posted January 10, 2005 Hi Claus, it was really weird. After my friend made this change to the server, which sounded pretty innocent. All users were not prompted for passwords or logins. we did repair or rolled back, don't remember know - it was last week and that was such a long long time ago!! (heh heh).. Oh well, i guess it goes down as a twlight zone mystery. thanks for the response, sincerely, J__
Vaughan Posted January 10, 2005 Posted January 10, 2005 It sounds like your friend has allowed the FMP file to be shared through a network volume, while it has also been hosted by FMS. Sharing files through a network volume is a long-term recipe for dsiaster at the best of time, but the simultaneous sharing and hosting has probably killed the file. Put it down to experience, make sure it never happens again, and start looking for a known-good backup. DO NOT RE-USE THE DAMAGED FILE AGAIN.
J__ Posted January 10, 2005 Author Posted January 10, 2005 Vaughan, thanks for the response. that's what I thought too. He had Filemaker Server and Filemaker Pro running on Mac osx and I thought he said he did a open remote on the file on the server. if he just opened it with filemaker from the folder where it was living would that be considered as sharing files? thanks, J__
Vaughan Posted January 10, 2005 Posted January 10, 2005 Yes. Delete the FMP application from the server so it never happens again.
