Dan-A Posted January 7, 2005 Posted January 7, 2005 Hi all, Is there a way to give the user "controlled" design access to a label layout? I want the user to be able to adjust the field positions on the label layout, so i want to create a button that would "switch to layout view" for that specific label layout, pause the running script, let the user adjust field position (not allow any adding or removing) then return to the main menu. Am I dreaming or is this do-able??!! Thanks Dan
transpower Posted January 7, 2005 Posted January 7, 2005 There is no script step to go to Layout Mode. Besides, why would you want to give up control of your layout? Instead, give your users a choice of layouts...let them pick one.
Dan-A Posted January 7, 2005 Author Posted January 7, 2005 Thanks for the info. It's not that I wish to give up control... I was just hoping there would be a way to allow for minor changes in a strict controlled manner. I can design a bunch of label options but in 3 months if my user has changed printer model, labels may be off by just a fraction of an inch... His only option would be to call me to adjust a label by 1/4 inch!! I wanted an option where the user could do that adjustment. Dan
Fenton Posted January 7, 2005 Posted January 7, 2005 In their Privilege Set you can turn on access to modify a particular layout. Wouldn't this do it?
Dan-A Posted January 7, 2005 Author Posted January 7, 2005 That's what i was thinking....but (had to be one) I think i can limit access to just one "supervisor" based on my privilege set-up BUT I still want navigation control (so some type of script; button) to get the supervisor to the specific layout and switch to layout mode.
Oldfogey Posted January 12, 2005 Posted January 12, 2005 Dan, Getting back to your basic problem - being able to shift the labels a bit, have a look at this - http://www.fmforums.com/threads/showflat.php?Cat=0&Number=140538&an=0&page=0#77981
Dan-A Posted January 18, 2005 Author Posted January 18, 2005 Hi Paul, Thanks for your reply I have been away from the forum for a bit & i missed your post. Could the link be wrong?? It seems to take me back to my own posted question!?
Oldfogey Posted January 20, 2005 Posted January 20, 2005 Dan, Can't you take a joke? Sorry about that. Putting in links is not my forte. Try this. http://www.fmforums.com/threads/showflat.php?Cat=0&Number=77981
Dan-A Posted January 20, 2005 Author Posted January 20, 2005 thanks Paul, this time it worked!!! From reading the post, this sounds like just what i need. I will open the file and check it out. I still think it would be great to have a script step to switch to layout mode. I'm sure it can be well controlled with the access priviliges of FM7. (but that's for another section of this forum!!) Thanks again. Dan
bruceR Posted January 23, 2005 Posted January 23, 2005 Set the page to fixed margins, then you won't have a problem with printer-specific settings.
Dan-A Posted January 24, 2005 Author Posted January 24, 2005 Paul, I looked at the link.... I like it, it's exactly what i wanted. I would have never thought of putting a container field & changing the size of the object in it to adjust text position!! thanks for the tip.
