User name and password verification in FM Server 7

Featured Replies

Am taking the plunge so to speak and have installed Filemaker Server 7 and the Web Publishing Engine on their own respective computers. I have read the myriad of documentation associated with this software and am in the process of doing some test DB conversions.

When I connect to the FM Server 7 computer by clicking on "Open Remote" I get a list of "Hosts" which in my case is one. I click on the host name and a "View Databases Hosted by Filemaker Server" window pops up asking for an account name and password. My question is this:

After entering a account name and password does Filemaker Server 7 look at all of the open databases to see if there is a match and then display the databases that have this account name and password?

Many thanks for any assistance......... Ray

Finally found the setting that controls what you see when you log on Server 7.

Under Configure--> Security --> Filter and Display of Files:

You can set either "Display all databases" or " Display only databases each user is authorized to access".

Ok, but what I'd like to know is - is there any way to prevent that "View databases hosted by..." authentication window from popping up when a fav hosts selection is clicked on???

Our less-than-savvy users don't get it and I wish I could disable it.

any suggestions for that??

You may be able to use a local "opener file" that performs a open remote script for you then closes itself.

So maybe create a DB file on the user's desktop that, when opened, runs a script to open the DB that's hosted over the network?

I can do that.

hmmm...I wish we didn't have to do all these workarounds...you'd think after 10 revisions FM would do everything that makes sense :
