updating "self-contained" OS9 database to OSX

I am not really that familiar with Filemaker, so apologies for the ignorance.

We have a very simple database which was created in Filemaker Pro 4 OS9 which was 'saved as?' or 'exported???' as a self contained application (i.e. it does not open in Filemaker Pro when double-clicked)

I have managed to open the file using a demo of Filemaker Pro7 and am now looking for a way to create a self contained database that does not require Filemaker to be installed on the users computer.

Hi macstar, and welcome to the Forum.

You are describing a Standalone application. The Standalones are created, and/or changed in what is referred to as the Developer application. It takes Developer to make changes on these files.

To convert them, I'm not sure if you will need both Developer packages, or if it can be done within the v7 Developer, others who have done this can jump in here.

Do you have the v4 Developer now?

Hi Lee

Thank you for your response.

We do not have v4 Developer, but now that I know the terminology I will be able to make further investigations.

Duncan

You don't need v.4 Developer to use the file with v.7.

You do need Dev7 to create a v.7 runtime.

BTW, v.4, app or runtime, runs very well in Classic under OS X.

Thanks - I'll give classic a go and see how it gets on
