How do I export a pdf file that is placed in a containter field? It is not referenced, it is embedded. Please keep in mind that I'm using FileMaker 6 on the Mac.

Thanks

That just seems wild. I can very easily import a PDF file into the Container field. Why wouldn't it be just as easy to grab the very same PDF and have it once again saved onto my desktop?

I agree with you. It is stupid.

This need has been asked and answered in the past. If you were to Do a search for +PDF +Container +Field of "All Forums", and remove the 1 in "Weeks" you will find a recent tread where some methods were spelled out.

You basically have two choices. Use a Plugin by Troi or Waves in Motion, or an external application such as AppleScript. Check for post by Fenton.

I'm using FM 7 and when I right-click on a container field I see a command "Export Field Contents..." that seems to work fine. (Perhaps this is new with version 7?)

My problem is that I can't seem to script this command. I put a button with the simple command of Export Field Contents. I specify the field to export, but not the output file. I want it to prompt the user with a Save As dialog. Is this not doable?

Thanks.

I can also export the container fields contents but rather than asking the users I would like to use the contents of 2 fields to create the file name, the specify button only lets you enter file references I would like to use a calulation to create the name. Is this possible?

This is a built in feature of Filemaker 8. Time to upgrade. 8 is fantastic.
