March 7, 200520 yr All, created an activity log dbase and have a couple of fields where I am using a pop up menu from a value list. The problem is that while it all works, it is extremely slow. As I go from field to field it takes 3+- seconds for the menu to appear and once you make a selection it takes a second or two to do anything. Example Field Name:Problem_type Field Type: Text, Indexed, By Value List, Allow Overide Field Format: Pop-up List - Display Values from Value List (use custom values) Value List: Problem Types Contains: Application CATV Mechanical Network Printing Security Server ==== I dont believe my machine is the problem, although I am running Norton and Aluria software. I have a Dell Workstation w/1GRAM-twin Xeon-136G free harddrive. I am not sharing anything yet, I am the only person accessing data. I do not have any scripts running, and I am wearing my lucky socks. But it takes ~3seconds when I tab into this field before anything happens (like the list popping up). When I make a selection it takes ~1 second before it moves onto the next field. Any ideas? Jim
March 7, 200520 yr Jim, From my experience, Pop-Up Menu is faster than Pop-Up List. The time lag you are describing is what I saw when using the List rather than Menu. One thought, are you using the latest version of 7 (7.03)? HTH, Mike

March 7, 200520 yr Pop up lists are SLOW in FM7 with no real good solutions, except to hope for improvement in future versions.

March 7, 200520 yr Author I updated to Rev 7.04- opened a soda and had 1/2 of it go on my keyboard- and we are still slow. Slower since most of the key's on the left side are stickey. (anyone know a good way to clean a KB?) I noticed the difference between the two types of menus (menu & list) as well. what is the rule of thumb for using one over another?
March 7, 200520 yr "I updated to Rev 7.04..." That's interesting... there is no v4 update! Time to check and conform versions...
March 8, 200520 yr Author Sorry, it was 7.03 with a caffeen enhanced add on, but that still doesnt explain the issue. I redesigned one of the pages to get away for the need of a menu/list but I need something that works at normal speed for the others. Any ideas? Jim
