Simple Value List question

Is there any way, other than using the first letter of the entry, to select the first item in a pop up list? In other words, I can select the SECOND item with the down arrow key (one keystroke) and enter (second keystroke). If I don't want to use the alpha keys, I have to hit down and then up and then enter to get the first item (three keystrokes). I'd like a key that selects the first item regardless of its first letter. Thank you.

I'm exactly sure what you're asking, but in a pop up list, you can type the first letter repeatedly to go to the next item that begins with that letter (or number).

For example: I am looking for an item that starts with "B" and there are 7 items in the list that start with "B". click into the field and hit B - it highlights the first B: hit B again - it highlights the 2nd B, etc.. until it goes back to the first B again and starts over. Hitting 'Enter' should select the highlighted selection and move to the next field in the tab order.

If you are talking about having an item pre-selected from the list, you could use the auto-enter calculation option for that field.

Hi, Deborah. I first tested this in version 6, where the behavior you're looking for (down-arrow goes to the first item) works. But then i tried it in version 7, and i get the same result as you (down-arrow goes to the second item). I don't know about others, but i think that's a step backwards.

As for a resolution, try using the space bar instead of the down-arrow key. That will grab the first item. It's kind of a drag, though, because it's not consistent.

Also, i notice that if i use a popup menu instead of a popup list, down-arrow goes to the first item instead. Could you use the popup menu option instead?

HTH,

Jerry

Hi Jerry,

I looked at the popup menu. I didn't really care for the way it looked plus one of my fields is repeating and it didn't seem to handle that as easily as the list....I will try the space bar idea. I wonder why they changed it....Thanks.
