Relationships & Password Permissions

We have a rather complicated process for Posting our financial information to an Accounting System. The Accounting System is in FileMaker & we do our Posting work with Scripts. We have a FM 5.5 Server & FM 6 Clients.

The process works quite well, except that some of our Relationships mysteriously become lost. They are still there, but the file does not recognize the other file it is supposed to connect to. Very irritating, in that it kills our entire Posting process.

This morning, I had the same problem. Due to some Password changes, I closed down FM & restarted. When I switched Passwords - everything was okay. (The specific problem has been there for days. In other words, we had closed & opened FM several times without fixing it. Just the Password Change "fixed" it.)

I know the Password affects my ability to Create/Update Relationships, but does it affect my ability to use them as well?

I didn't think so, but I must be wrong. Any input is appreciated.

Well, the Password thing doesn't seem to be the (entire) answer. Still happening.

One thing that is common each time is that the two file reside on different servers.

Hmmm Im not sure what the problem or issue might be on this. I will suggest that maybe you take a closer look at the password setups you have on your files, based on your description so far.

I do know from personal experience that different solutions in the same network environment with different passwords can cause some strange problems if they do not all share the same passwords for managing/browsing the files.

Under normal circumstances, FM accesses the next file in line by attempting to pass the current password that you used on one file on to the next. If this fails, under normal circumstances you will get a dialog asking for the password for accessing this file.

If you access one file with an admin pw and another with a browse only pw, depending on which of these 2 files you use to access the next file in line will determine what level of access it will get if any.
