Problem with images doing IWP with FSA

I'm just setting up a FM7 server and have several image database that I have been hosting with FM 6 Unlimited. The databases were set up with referenced links to the images that were stored in a subfolder with relation to the database. When converted to 7 the images would only show up when opened directly connected to the machine, not when remote accessed or via IWP. Looking at the paths stored in the container, it showed both a relative path and a absolute path which was wrong because I had moved the files to a new machine. I removed the absolute path and pasted back just the relative one. This fixed the problem of the images showing up when opened via remote but not by IWP. I know the documentation says to put the referenced files in the root folder of the web server but here's the complication: I'm running FM Server and the Web Publishing engine on one computer that's running OS X 10.3. I'm running the Web module on another machine that's running OS X 10.2 Server. So my first thought was to put the image files on the web server machine in the Web root folder; that didn't work. So then I thought maybe they should be in the root folder of the machine running the Web Publishing engine. That had the possibility of being two places, the main web server root or the "Personal Web Sharing" root under the user. But it didn't work putting the images in either place. So far I've only been able to get images to display via IWP from FMSA by importing the files into a container itself rather than a referenced file but I'd rather not have to do this to all of the database I need to convert. Surely there's a way to display images using IWP that are linked with a reference.

Thanks,

John

I think that the images must be saved in a web server WWW directory.

For example, IIS 'inetpub/wwwroot' or '/Library/Web Server/Documents' in Apache/Mac OS X (10.2 or 10.3).

Post the path to images saved in FileMaker reference, maybe the problem is there..

Hi,

Thanks for your response. The path in the container reference is:

image:FolkFestival03/[filename]

The path to image files on web server is:

/Library/Web Server/Documents/FolkFestival03/[filename]

Thanks,

John

/Library/Web Server/Documents/FolkFestival03/[filename]

Hello,

yes, this could be a good file path but over the net you need an URL.

it means that your image is available via web through the http protocol

like this: http://yourdomain.com/FolkFestival03/filename.

hope this can help you.

bye! my working day is over now. smile.gif

Hmmm... I thought IWP would take care of that form me, it always did before. So do I have to put a HTTP reference in the container?

Thanks,

John

Hello,

is it possible to view the HTML source created by IWP?

I think we can find where is the error looking at the page src.

Try putting the images in the Web folder that's located within the FileMaker application folder. I read somewhere that anything Filemaker shares over the web must be in this folder. It's inconvenient, but it's working for me.

It's strange, there is no IMG tag in the HTML code generated by IWP.

  • 1 month later...

I'm having a heck of a problem with this also. Running FSA 7.0.3 on OSX Server 10.3.9.

I have a simple image database in Library/Filemaker Server 7/Data/Databases/ called scores4.fp7

I put a folder of small jpeg images in Library/WebServer/Documents/scores/

I think this is what we are supposed to do, no?

I directly inserted the images into the database on the computer running FSA, first closing it from FM Server Admin, and then using a local copy of FMPro, hoping this would establish valid file paths. I inserted them as linked images. Then I reopened the database from the Admin.

I do not know what syntax to use in Define File References, can someone help me with that?

I can't see the images from web browsers, is that because there is no reference defined, even though I imported the images right on the server computer?

Thanking anyone for assistance! I've looked in the boards for a few hours, but have no clear idea as to the solution.

Ok, I've fooled around some more, and now I've realized I can't even see the images when I connect to the database on FSA with a remote FM Pro client.

The container says: The file cannot be found: file_name

So, what is the best way of inserting linked images in a database on FSA, and where is the best pace to store them on the server, if you want remote clients to see them thorugh a web browser using IWP?
