Windows flashing during external scripts

Featured Replies

Hi,

I'm running external scripts (in other files) from the main file. The problem I'm having is, that when the external scripts run in the background, the window in the main file keeps flashing, or becomes blank, or sometimes the window of the external file appears in the front (just blank window).

I have the "Freeze window" step as the first step in the scripts that run the external scripts in the main file, but that seems to be working only partially.

Is there a way to completely freeze the window in the main file while external scripts are running?

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Jari V.

It depends on what script steps you have in the external file. Here are some of the script steps that will cause flashes or blank window:

Go to Layout [refresh]

Refresh Window

Toggle Text Ruler

Set Zoom Level

Go to Field

Go to next Field

Go to previous field

Paste, Cut, Insert Text, Insert calculated result [anything that is dependent on a field having to be on the layout].

Hiding or showing status area

Enter Preview Mode

Allow Toolbar [on or off]

Any external call to another filemaker file

Send DDE Execute [to an external source]

Send Message [to an external source]

Thanks for your reply,

The problem is mainly with scripts, that execute external subscripts in other files (searches, import, export).

Does your reply imply that flashing in the main file cannot be avoided under those circumstances?
