Techie April Fools jokes

Featured Replies

Anyone have any good ones? This is one i did to my boss:

Take a screenshot of the desktop and save that screenshot as a BMP file.

Set that BMP file to the desktop wallpaper.

Delete all icons and hide My Computer, My Network Places, and any other desktop icons.

Set the Windows taskbar to auto-hide.

Now, when the user sits down, the screen looks normal, but none of the icons work because they're just part of a picture! Rebooting doesn't help.

I went an extra step and used this registry hack to set up the Windows Run box to accept "diagnose" as a command. That command opens the file C:diagnose.htm, which just says "APRIL FOOL" in big letters and explains what has happened. Then when the person comes to the tech staff asking what is happening, you can just tell him to try Start > Run > diagnose as if that's something built in to Windows.

MHWAHAHAHA!!!!

I feel the horns growing out of my head as I'm thinking about this. Hmmm - who's on lunch break right now........

That's good.

I am a little late, but I always get a kick out of slightly unplugging the mouse and keyboard. Again, rebooting does not help.

Although I have never had the nerve to do it, I have always wanted to install a clapper (you know, "Clap on, clap off") in between an annoying user's computer and the wall socket. You can set the sensitivity really high and any shuffling noise under their desk would alternately turn off/on the computer... hehehee

Oh this is great!!

Years ago, I had a small program which popped up an official-looking window warning a User that their hard disk was dirty and needed cleaning and it displayed an 'Okay to Clean' button. When they clicked it, it sounded like a washing machine which then went into spin-dry cycle sounds and ended with, "Okay. Your hard drive is clean now you ninny!"

I used it on everyone I knew! It's amazing what we nerds find funny! But watching the looks on their faces as it spin-dried still tickles me today! grin.gif

Quin, I knew you were a nasty nasty man!

I'll have to watch my front porch for flaming paper bags... grin.gif

Nice one. I did a slightly less involved joke myself, though it got some good laughs. I placed CLICK ME buttons on various layouts of the primary databases, with a script designed to hijack them for a short while. See attachment if you want to know exactly what it said.

I'll admit the original concept (this link does hijack you, too) is not my own, for those who might be familiar with the source. laugh.gif
