I am seeking any information on persons that have upgraded from FM 5 to FM 7 that have online databases being run by Lasso coding.

Did this coding convert easily? Did the coding have to be all rewritten?

I did it! I had several relatively simple CDML pages that I rewrote to Lasso 7. It took a while (a month or so) because of a lot of inexperience on my part. Fortunately, I was able to hammer it out on a backup of my system.

After all is said and done, it turns out that the structure of Lasso is very similar to CDML - but it took me a long time to figure that out. The administrative part of Lasso is quite a bit different than the Web Security stuff though. I spent a lot of time just figuring that out...

Here is the little bit of knowledge that I can pass on to any one trying this.

1: Make certain that your "REferences" are directly to the files you want to access. In my case, I have my FM Server on a specific address in my subnet (192.168.1.100 for example) and I had extremely slowe response until I changed my references to that address specifically (as opposed to fmnet:/*/filename.

2: If you are going to display data from a relationship that may not have a related value yet, make a portal in the FileMaker layout. Even if you are only going to display one related value (and not multiple) on the web and therefore don't need the "portal" web command, you will get an error if you have the field on a page without a portal. (Keep this advice and you will know what I mean when your pages crash!)

So, to answer your question, I rewrote the pages - but I had to becuase all of the relationships changed from FM 6 to FM 7 anyway.

Good Luck. wink.gif
