Help: Linking a button with a powerpoint file

Featured Replies

I would be grateful for any help/suggestions from all the afficionados out there.

I've just started using filemaker and am making my first layout. I'm trying to make a button within filemaker that will link to a powerpoint presentation that's also on my hard drive. Is this possible? How can it be done?

Thanks so much for any help.

I think what you want is....?

In the Specify Button dialog choose Send Event, specify your Power Point presentation from the Specify button under options.

thanksk sbg2, that was great. now i know how to link a button to a document, but new problems have now popped up--maybe you know the answers?

1) I have a network and I want the file that the button leads to to be shared with others on the network, so that when they press the button, they can view the powerpoint through the host computer. do you know if this is possible?

2) I want the powerpoint link button to be on a number of different records but I want each button to refer to a different powerpoint file (since each file is related to a different ppt). Do you know if it's possible to assign different files for the same button in different records?

I do very much appreciate your help.

Thanks.

Create a container field, then either right click on the container and choose Insert Object or enter the container field and choose Insert>Object from the Main Menu. Users will be able to Right click the object for the option to Show or Edit the Object or they can double left-click to Open the object.

I have the same question! However, in Browse mode, when I right click on the container field that has the powerpoint presentation, I get only "Insert" choices (insert object, insert sound, etc).

How do I enable the container field so that when I click on it in Broswe mode I get the option to Show or Edit the powerpoint?
