Newbies fmeric Posted April 21, 2005 Newbies Posted April 21, 2005 common question Im sure. Im building a database system so I can go out in the field and log timecodes from videotape masters and described what problems occur at that paticular time code. when Im done I will email this FM file to my client which he intends to send to his client via email. He needs a fast and simple way to convert it to a PDF so anyone with Acrobat can read it in the way we have the forms set up. were using windows XP. Can anyone help me? Eric
QuinTech Posted April 21, 2005 Posted April 21, 2005 Hi, Eric, and welcome to the Forums! It sounds like you (or your client) should download a PDF writer. I use one called CutePDF. HTH, Jerry
Newbies fmeric Posted April 21, 2005 Author Newbies Posted April 21, 2005 Thanks for the info. If you could would you explain the process in detail from going to a record to a .pdf. I need to explain this to him tonight when he brings me the FMP software. Is that your band? Do you have any music links? Im looking for some music on a surf DVD title Im working on Thanks again Eric
QuinTech Posted April 21, 2005 Posted April 21, 2005 Once you've got CutePDF (or an equivalent) installed, you would use the Print command to generate a PDF. Just like printing to paper, except you're printing to a PDF. Most of these PDF writers install as printer drivers, so it is just a matter of selecting that driver in the same way you would select, say, and HP LaserJet 4000. I wish that was my band! I'm just a fan. Check out funkyside.com if you wanna see some cool stuff. No surf music there AFAIK. J
BrentHedden Posted April 22, 2005 Posted April 22, 2005 One thing to watch out for with this - I happen to be using the actual PDF distiller that came with Adobe, so I don't know if this same problem will exist with other software. No matter how hard I try, I can't set default values for the print settings. Every time, the PDF comes out 1200 DPI, color. That is one unneccessarly HUGE file comming from a B&W layout. No need for 1200 DPI, since my printer can only handle 600. I can change it each time I get the print dialog box, but after it "prints", it resets back. I have not been able to find a good solution for this yet. Watch out for this.
DykstrL Posted April 22, 2005 Posted April 22, 2005 Another rather good PDF creator is PDF995 - works fairly well with W2K and XP. To 'BrentHedden' - if you have the full Acrobat, you also have the PDF writer driver on the install disk. It's under the 'Other' install options. It works infinitely better than the distiller.
