Is it possible to list which layouts a specific field is used in without searching layout by layout :confused [color:"purple"]

Look at File >> Access Privilages >> Overview >> Select the Field and the Layouts will appear next to it.

Yes it is to. Maybe you are looking for it in the wrong place.

Go to the Main Menu (when FileMaker is Open (top of the Window).

Select File

Select Access Privilages (It's located about mid way down the list, just below Define Relationships)

Select Overview

Select the Field in question.

If this doesn't work, then look up Overview in the Manual.

BTW, I use v6, but our platforms are different. However, I don't think this changes in XP, but then again, it is XP.

Well Lee I found it but...all three (Passwords..., Groups... and Overview...) are greyed out. How do I get that fixed?

Thanks for being patient with me!

If they are greyed out, than you are [color:"red"] Not authorized to access them using your current Password.

I'm assuming you are [color:"red"] Not the author, so you should contact the developer for a "Master" Password, or at least one to allow access to these items.

Or, if you have the Master PW, you need to enter it as the files are being openned. I belive this means holding down the Shift Key when starting the file(s).

Then all will be as I said.

We figured out that what we needed for this topic but now need to know if it is possible to do the same thing thru multiple databases? Or, will we need to go through this same process for each database?

Again, thanks for all your help.

The Overview only shows fields in the current file.

You should consider a 3rd party analysis tool to help you figure out where elements are used. I like MetadataMagic, though Analyzer is pretty good, and I've heard good stuff about Brushfire. These tools are designed to show you where each element (field, layout, script, relationship, and value list) is used throughout your solution. You can also quickly see which elements are not referenced by any other elements, making it easy to get rid of things that are no longer used.

Be sure to check the system requirements for those. I think some of them require FileMaker Developer to create a DDR to use as the source.
