I want to reach my medical office databases on my Filemaker 7 Server but the IT security folks at the hospital have locked down all but the basic ports and refuse to open them. I used Internet Connect on my ibook to establish a VPN to my Mac OS X Panther Server /Filemaker Advanced Server. Open Remote did not see the databases. What am I doing wrong? Do I need cooperation from the IT guys? Is VPN Tracker the answer?

I can access my FM Database behind a VPN firewall without any trouble. You will need the I.P. address of the FM server so you should ask the I.T. folks to give it a static address. At home logon to your VPN network. Then open Filemaker and use "File" > "Open Remote" > "Add..." and then enter the I.P. address of your server.
