eljefejb Posted May 2, 2005 Posted May 2, 2005 Greetings, fellow FileMakers! Does anyone know how to make a text box that won't expand when full? I have found the maximum number of characters limit that one can apply under the Validation tab in the field options when defining the database, but don't really want to go that route. Because of the variance in character height and width, it's hard to come up with a good number that will allow the user to fill the given space without going over the limit. Alternatively, if it were possible for the height of the text field on the layout to increase dynamically based on the number of lines of text entered beyond the "default" height, I suppose that would also work for my purposes. (Did any of that make any sense? Early Monday morning before coffee, here... ) Thanks, Jeff
Søren Dyhr Posted May 2, 2005 Posted May 2, 2005 There is a thread goin on here: http://www.clevelandconsulting.com/support/viewtopic.php?t=510 That attempt to handle such issues.... --sd
comment Posted May 2, 2005 Posted May 2, 2005 When printed (the ultimate goal of this particular application) Please forgive me - I will try to say this as nicely as I can, but it is not easy: If the ultimate goal of your application is printing, you should consider using a word processor or a page layout program. In most cases, the ultimate goal of a database application is to keep track of data. If the user has data to enter that is longer than 13 lines, and the developer has prevented the entry of such data, then instead of the application serving the user, it is the user that is expected to serve the application. I am a user myself, and I can tell you we don't like that kind of applications. I would concentrate on how to print the data regardless of the size, instead of on how to limit the data input.
