Baylah Posted May 19, 2005 Posted May 19, 2005 Hi, I just recently learned of a new technique with value lists and I have applied it, but it does not seem to be performing as I would expect. In my Database called E-mail List I have set up a value list that: Uses values from a field, then Include all values is checked, then a second field is referenced and sorted by the second field. Then in a related database, I set up a field, formatted the field as a drop down list and referenced the above value list. This works AWESOME...I feel foolish that I never knew you could do this before. By the way, I am in a server 7 environment. My question is, when I add records to my "e-mail Database" the new records do not display in the related pop up list, only the records that were present when I initially set up the value list. This goes contrary to what I anticipated would happen. Is this the way this type of value list should behave, or have I done something wrong. I fully expected that as I added new records to the list that they would be part of the value list. I know I can achieve all of this with a portal, but I thought this referenced value list was a great way to go for this application. I more suspect something is going on that I am not aware of. Steve
Vaughan Posted May 19, 2005 Posted May 19, 2005 There are limits to value lists: duplicates are not displayed, and only the first 100 (?) characters are indexed. Value lists *do not* replace portals. They are means of streamlining and controlling data entry.
