Hi, I'm a beginner to both Filemaker & this forum so hello!

(proficient at Access but keen to make the jump)

I run a small record label and would like to catalogue all our music (mp3) with view to selling music online from our website.

Would also like to include a customer database that could be added to online by new customers.

Please can anyone point me to any templates/tutorials to get me started.

Many thanks in advance!

Howdy, s! Welcome to FM and FMFORUMS! I think you will find FileMaker a fun, easy, and productive tool that you will start using more and more for all sorts of things that were just too much trouble in other software tools.

As for your online catalog and customer database project, FileMaker Pro 7 can certainly do the job but it is both easier and harder than previous versions of FM (4-6). You can experiment with the client version of FM7 you have and web publish some sample databases right now and get a feel fow how INSTANT WEB PUBLISHING works. I don't have FM7, but I think everything is built-in so all you'd have to do is enable web publishing and share the databases you want published. If you feel that this will suit your purpose, you can look into the FileMaker Server Advanced product used for web publishing on a larger scale. If IWP is insufficient for what you want, you can look into working with a FileMaker Pro web developer to use other technologies to create a more custom catalog/customer system if you aren't a programmer/coder yourself... there's some really good folks right here in these forums, too.
