***ANDY*** Posted June 16, 2005 Posted June 16, 2005 Dear All, I have a No1.fp5 file which at opening performs a script that imports records from another No2.fp5 file. Inside the import mask I have entered all the fields from No2.fp5 that shall match with the fields from No1.fp5 So far so good - it works, but as soon as I add another field to the importing file it messes up almost all my created matches. Does anybody know why that happens?? I have spent several hours so far to recreate all my matches and fear it might happen again as soon as I add or delete any fields in my importing file. Has anybody got a clue? Thanks, Andy
Lee Smith Posted June 16, 2005 Posted June 16, 2005 Hi Andy, If I'm reading you correctly, you need to perform your import manually first, any time they change. The reason is, FileMaker remember the last Find performed (also Sort, Export, Import and Page Setup). So the key is to do it manually first, and then update your script immediately. To update the script, open ScriptMaker, select the Script to be updated, click on Edit, and then click Okay or Done button at the bottom. This will bring up an auxiliary window with the above steps listed. Any of these steps that are in your Script will appear darker then the others, and have the option of Keep or Replace . Choose Replace for those that you want to update. HTH Lee
-Queue- Posted June 16, 2005 Posted June 16, 2005 Adding fields should not pose a problem AFAIAA, but deleting fields is a great way to screw up your imports. It is much better to rename them as 'obs' for obsolete than to delete them altogether.
***ANDY*** Posted June 17, 2005 Author Posted June 17, 2005 Thanks Guys, as I'm thinking about it, it might have actually happened by erasing fields and not by adding fields. Just in case I have now saved a copy of the correct import settings...
