Heres a good one. I look over about 50 Mac's all utilizing an FM7 database for different purposes. One of the machines encounters a problem when dealing with a packing slip database and a material shipped data base. The two are related by a Packing slip number. Each packing slip can contain several items that reside in the material shipped DB.

Heres the funny part, one of the work stations encounters a "find" problem with the material shipped DB only. When searching for a packing slip number FM can not find the first two items on the packing slip. Its always two and always the first two items and it will only occur on one packing slip. Every other machine in the plant can run the same query and find all correct material for that packing slip.

If i have the user quit FM and then restart.... problem solved all data is present?!?!?

Is this a function of a corrupt preferences file??? I've tried to think this one out and thats about the only plausible solution i can think of...

Just looking for others insight. Thanks in advance.

How are the files being hosted? Does a GTRR step produce the same problem, if you use it instead of the find?

no matter how we attempt to find the first two coils on the packing slip they are unretrievable. Again however, as soon as FM is quit out of and restarted they are able to be found again.

I don't think that quite answers my questions. Or am I missing something?

ill try to better answer your question:

the files are being hosted on an x-serve (im not our LAN tech so im not sure on specs.) but all files are located on that central server this machine sole purpose is to serve or FM db.

as for the related records solution: that also doesn't work. ive tried every way possible to retrieve the specific pieces of data to try to narrow the possible problem down. In the problem mac's eyes those records do not exists until FM is quit out of and restarted.

I'm thinking about just just uninstalling and reinstalling FM but i would like to know why this machine is behaving the way it is....

Does it have any plug-ins or non-standard applications installed that might be conflicting with FMP?

nope its a pretty basic relation based on a packing slip #. theres really nothing out of the ordinary with this one. well other then the problem....

ps thanks for the help/interest in this queue.

No problem, Homestar. wink.gif

I think we'll need to see a copy of this file to be better help. If you can't do that, perhaps there is a developer in your area who can help.
