importing from excel placing decimals

Featured Replies

I am importing from excel and a col w/ numbers say 3200 needs to have 2 demecimals 32.00. when i import it shows 3200.00. what did i do wrong.

I know this sounds like a stupid question, but how is the Field formated in Excel, Is it really a number, or does it show General? Did you apply the decimals in Excel?

thanks for the reply.

the excel file was in number format w/ no decimals. i tried to format it in excel w/ 2 decimals and got the same problems. i tried to import this to fmp with it formatted in number and general from excel and got the same response.

thanks

I may be missing something, but AFAIK "3200" is the same as "3200.00". If you want 3200 to become 32.00, you need to divide by 100 somewhere, either in Excel before importing, or in Filemaker afterwards.

That's why I asked my stupid questions. Because, that was the way I read it too.

That a work. Thanks...

I am new to fmp & was so busy looking on a way to get it to do it that i didnt see that simple solution..

thanks again

This may be an Excel problem

I recently had a case where a formatted "cell" would not import into FileMaker as it was properly displayed in Excel. My only solution was to SAVE the excel sheet as Tab Delimited, then import the tab file into FileMaker.
