Okay, so this is not exactly off topic but not exactly important either.

I've always wondered what those eight characters mean. Not being a Mac guy I've always been under the assumption that they mean something like Apple EVenT and Open DOCument.

Anybody know for sure?

AFAIK, that is correct (also confirmed on Apple's site). That's why I am surprised seeing you using them in Windows.
