Not sure I understand your questions...

In FM6, most work is done on the workstation, so if you need more speed, workstation specifications can help a lot. On the server there are two main bottlenecks: hard drives and network. Fast hard drives will make a lot of difference. If your filemaker server is not dedicated but does a lot of other things too, then that will degrade performance.

In FM7 the picture is different. The Sever now does a lot more work.
