Slickwilly9 Posted July 14, 2005 Posted July 14, 2005 One book I have regarding FM7 talks about using containers and Pdfs. It says " a Pdf file inserted as a file shows the file icon. A Pdf file inserted as a Quicktime file shows the Pdf contents. " But when I try and do so it gives me an error saying The Quicktime movie file could not be inserted. Make sure the movie has been saved as self-contained and playable on non-Apple platforms. The book which I got this from was SAMS Teach Yourself Filemaker 7, which has been a good series for me when dealing with other programs. I have read previous posts regarding this topic and have not found anything which ultimately solves my problem of being able to view the actual .Pdf in the container. If anyone can help please do. Thank you.
Wim Decorte Posted July 15, 2005 Posted July 15, 2005 If I remember correctly, this behavior only works on Mac, not on Windows. On Windows all you'll get is the icon.
Fenton Posted July 15, 2005 Posted July 15, 2005 Yes, it does work that way on a Mac. Not that that helps you. But that may be why they wrote it. It would be great if it worked the same on both platforms. Maybe someday.
mattley Posted July 18, 2005 Posted July 18, 2005 The only way I've found is to insert a reference to the object, double clicking will then open the PDF in acrobat reader. This is far frm ideal, as at it will obviously break if you move either the Database file or the PDF. It works on the Mac 'cos PDF rendering is built into the GUI. XP is seriously starting to show it's age.
sonrise Posted July 22, 2005 Posted July 22, 2005 I have mac. and I need to view an entire PDF document in a containter field. here's what I need to know 1. Each PDF is named with the file ID# and needs to be linked to that file automatically when the PDF file is created and set up in a folder. 2. the entire PDF document (regarless of # of pages) needs to be seen in the container (if that involves Quicktime, I'm lost and would need help with that.) 3. when we click on the PDF icon, or quick time file we need to be able to download the PDF file to our desktop. We are a small company with 9 networked computers. if anyone can help me that would be great. DB
