Creating Records from a Found Set

Please help - I am going nuts!!

Moving from 5.5 to 7.0 and can longer import a found set.

I have two tables in my Special Ed File.

One table is student/teacher schedule.

Second table is the entry table where grades, behavior etc is stored (along with the student/teacher information). Each week, a teacher needs to create a new set of empty records in the entry file to update student progress. In FM 5.5 I had a button that would find that teachers schedule in the related file, and then in the entry file, it would import that found set of teacher/student records, Therefore creating an empty set of records for data input.

With FM7 I am feeling totally stupid on how to do this -- I tried finding a set in the teacher/schedule table, then going to the layout in the entry table and importing - but I get the entire school population. I tried copying and pasting but that doesn't work. I know I could create a seperate file - one solely for student/teacher information and do the relationship like 5.5, but I was hoping to use the features of FM7 tables and keep it all together.

Thank you Thank you Thank you

Here to ask a question but I know this one ... had this happen.

student/teacher table

entry file

do your find in student/teacher. leave that found set alone. switch to layout of entry file. be sure the layout is on entry file when you import. select student teacher in import box.

it goes wrong if you change your found set in student teacher to all records first or if student teacher is file which is closed closed (it gets the whole set instead of just found set). it goes wrong if you aren't on entry layout. now that i understand it, it works good. good luck.

Dear Alan

Thanks - but it does not work - it imports the total records in the teacher/student file (3113) and not the found set(20) --

I used the Teacher table for my find, switched to the Entry table for the import and specified the Teacher table for the import

:o-(

If I put the teachers in a seperate file - it works -- but does not function between tables in the same file

Thanks for your thoughts

Jan

Is there any way you can post a cloned empty copy of your file(s)? I would question what layout is referenced as your Source. But it would help to see it.

Basicly is it what this rusty template does, and gives you a slight amnesty from thinking in recursive datastructures and other hairy issues.

I made a similar template for 7.0 ....
