jkrier Posted August 2, 2005 Posted August 2, 2005 I'm working on my first FM web-enabled project and want to keep it VERY simple. The task is to allow individuals to register for our company events directly into a FM database. We currently have a consulting company that maintains our web site and has a page where registrants enter their info and an email is sent to us. We then have to manually update our FM files. We want to automate this. Can I use IWP with FM7 Server Advanced with MS IIS as the web server (Windows platform)? Or do I need to do Custom Web publishing? Can you call a FM web page from a HTML web page? It is very confusing as to the approach to take for this first project. If I have to do CWP, there are so many opinions on the tools to use such as XSLT, Lasso and PHP... Secuirty is also an issue.... Lots of questions, I know. Any advice and/or help is appreciated.
Reed Posted August 2, 2005 Posted August 2, 2005 You can use IWP on Server Advanced with IIS. I'm not using windows, but if you read the system requirements, it says that 2000 server or 2003 server will work. (I'm using OS X 10.3.8 and apache) To open a specific database with a URL, use the following format: "http://hostname.com/fmi/iwp/cgi?-db=databaseName&-startsession" I still haven't had time to get started with CWP yet, partly because I don't know which method to start with, and partly because I keep finding new ways to work around the limitations of IWP...
Vaughan Posted August 3, 2005 Posted August 3, 2005 Not exactly an answer to your question, but a reply to the "very simple" comment. I've recently done some work on a system that the client assured me was to be very simple. The problem was that their situation was VERY COMPLEX! So: a database can only be as simple as the problem it is required to solve. (Hitherto known as Vaughan's Law.)
jkrier Posted August 18, 2005 Author Posted August 18, 2005 You are absolutely correct. I have an expert consultant helping me now on this "simple" project. :smile2:
